Fang Ma is a Senior Lecturer in Law at the University of Portsmouth, affiliated with the School of Law within the Faculty of Business & Law. She specializes in corporate governance, company law, and comparative legal systems between England and China. Her research focuses on directors’ duties, shareholder remedies, and legal reforms in corporate law.
Education: PhD from the University of the West of England (2009), LLM in International Commercial Law from the University of Nottingham. She joined Portsmouth in 2014 and previously taught at the University of Hertfordshire.
Research Interests: Current projects include corporate governance frameworks, cross-jurisdictional legal comparisons, and shareholder protections. She contributes to the Corporate Law & Governance Review editorial board and reviews for the British Council Newton Fund.
Teaching: Coordinates undergraduate legal dissertations and teaches Company Law, Business Law, and Legal Research modules. Supervises PhD candidates in company law and corporate governance.
Collaborations: Engages in international research networks, presenting at conferences like the European China Law Studies Annual Conference and the Cambridge Conference. Her work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals related to legal frameworks and economic growth.
