Fan Zhang is an Assistant Professor of Sound Design in the Theatre department at the Rueff School of Design, Art, and Performance, Purdue University. She is a critically acclaimed New York-based sound designer and composer specializing in theatre, dance, film, commercial radio, and installation art.
Education:
- M.F.A. from Yale School of Drama
Research Interests: Zhang pioneers immersive auditory experiences through sound design and original composition, noted for "cinematic precision" and "otherworldly quality" by The New York Times and Vulture. Her work explores narrative transformation via surrealist soundscapes, pulsating underscoring, and transformative audio environments that serve as "undercover heroes" in productions. She integrates cross-disciplinary techniques from theatre, dance, and film to create emotionally resonant sonic architectures.
