Fahad Ahmad is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Criminology at Toronto Metropolitan University. His research focuses on critical terrorism studies, systemic Islamophobia, and justice-oriented philanthropy. He holds a PhD from Carleton University’s School of Public Policy and Administration, an MBA from York University, and a BS from Aligarh Muslim University. Prior roles include a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Toronto’s Centre for Criminology and Sociolegal Studies.
His interdisciplinary work examines the intersection of national security practices, racialized policing, and civil society resilience. Current projects include investigating philanthropy’s ties to right-wing populism in Canada and exploring justice philanthropy through international collaborations. He co-leads the Structural Islamophobia Research Lab at the University of Toronto’s Institute of Islamic Studies and co-edits the book series Dimensions: Islam, Muslims, and Critical Thought with UTP.
Awarded SSHRC and Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation support, Ahmad’s scholarship bridges academia and activism. Key contributions include analyzing Muslim civil society securitization and critiquing counter-radicalization policies. His recent publications address memorialization of the War on Terror, pandemic-era philanthropy reforms, and racial justice in security frameworks.
