Fabiola Naldi is an Associate Professor at the Academy of Fine Arts of Bologna (ABABO), teaching Contemporary Art Languages, Museology and Management of Exhibition Systems, and Expressive Problems of the Contemporary. She also teaches Art Appreciation at the University of Bologna and Contemporary Art System for the Master's program in Curatorial Practice at IED Florence.
She earned her PhD in Contemporary Art History from the University of Bologna's Faculty of Arts and Philosophy, specializing in Contemporary Art History, with a thesis on Phenomenology of Styles. In 2014, she obtained the National Scientific Qualification as an Associate University Professor.
Naldi's research focuses on contemporary artistic practices, visual culture, and the relationship between art and public space. Her work explores the synaesthetic transformation of artistic practices, the relationship between aesthetic languages and visual culture, and the social, political, and linguistic connections in contemporary art processes. She examines performance practices, live arts, audio-video installations, and artistic practices in public spaces in relation to the expanded concept of spectator/user/consumer.
Her publications demonstrate consistent engagement with video art, photography, street art, and contemporary artistic movements. The articles reveal a trajectory from early work on photographic transformations (2003) through video art (2012) to more recent explorations of contemporary art collectives, gender studies, and urban interventions. Her work consistently bridges historical avant-garde movements with contemporary practices, particularly examining how artistic processes have been freed from traditional contexts.
- Member of the board of directors of the Bologna Museums Institution (2017-2022)
- Member of the Commission for Art in Public Space for the Municipality of Bologna (since January 2023)
- Correspondent for specialized magazines including ArtLab, Around Photography, and Flash Art
Naldi has curated numerous exhibitions including the Painted Wall Biennial in Dozza (2009, 2011, 2013), 'Frontier. La linea dello stile' (2012-2016), and 'Time Code' exhibition at MAMbo - Museo d'Arte Moderna di Bologna. She co-created ArtTV, a video art program on MATCH MUSIC satellite channel, and co-curated the Pomilio Blumm Prize program for SKYARTE in 2015. Her curatorial work demonstrates a consistent focus on the intersection of art, public space, and contemporary media.
