Fabio Massaccesi is an Associate Professor at the Department of the Arts, University of Bologna. His research focuses on medieval art history, particularly paintings in Emilia-Romagna (12th-15th centuries), spatial contexts of religious art, and liturgical furnishings. He holds teaching roles in Bologna's DAMS (Dipartimento di Architettura, Musica e Design) and coordinates courses in Rimini on fashion archives and digital art history resources.
Education: Born in 1974, he earned a degree in Medieval and Modern Art History from Bologna (2000), followed by a PhD in 2008. He served as a visiting scholar at the University of Warwick (2010-2011) and has held roles such as 'Cultore della materia' since 2005.
Research emphasizes art commissions, architectural integration, and document-based reconstructions of medieval church spaces. Recent work includes studies of rood screens and liturgical arrangements in Bologna's churches. He has organized exhibitions like the 2008 'Giovanni Baronzio e la pittura a Rimini nel Trecento' and co-founded the 'Fashion Archives: Heritage Management' course in 2017-2018.
Teaching includes M.A. courses on comparative European art history and digital resources for medieval art study. He also taught fashion history at Istituto Marangoni in Milan.
