Dr. Fabio Juliá is a Junior Leader at the Institut Català d’Investigació Química (ICIQ) in Spain, supported by a La Caixa Foundation Fellowship. He holds a PhD from the University of Murcia (2016) and completed postdoctoral research at the University of Manchester (2017–2020) and the Max Planck Institute (2020). His research focuses on sustainable catalysis, combining Earth-abundant metal complexes with photochemistry to develop eco-friendly synthetic tools. Key interests include photocatalytic C–N bond formation, halogen-atom transfer reactions, and late-stage functionalization of organic molecules. He has published in top journals like Science, Nature, and Journal of the American Chemical Society.
Dr. Juliá leads a multidisciplinary team at ICIQ, collaborating on projects such as the HARVEST and COFPOR-4-FUELS initiatives. His work bridges homogeneous catalysis and material science, emphasizing automation and real-world applications. Notable contributions include studies on ligand-to-metal charge transfer (LMCT) mechanisms and the development of novel photocatalytic strategies for organic synthesis.
His research group actively explores CO₂ reduction, water oxidation, and sustainable fuel production, with a focus on renewable energy integration. Collaborations with industries like JOLT Technologies have led to innovations in electrode manufacturing for hydrogen production. Dr. Juliá is committed to fostering innovation through high-throughput experimentation and robotic platforms.
