Dr. Fabio Fasoli is a Senior Lecturer in Social Psychology at the University of Surrey, based in the School of Psychology within the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences. He holds roles as Programme Leader for the Social Psychology MSc, co-director of the Sex, Gender, and Sexualities Research Centre, and Chair of the University Rainbow Network. He earned his PhD in Social Psychology from the University of Trento (2011) and has held postdoctoral positions across Europe before joining Surrey in 2016 as a Marie Sklodowska-Curie Fellow.
His research focuses on auditory gaydar, derogatory language, LGBTQ+ rights, and gender equality. Key areas include the social perception of sexual orientation via voice cues, the impact of language on stigma, and body image in digital contexts. He collaborates internationally with scholars like Anne Maass and David Frost. Notable projects include investigations into voice-based discrimination, body positivity trends, and barriers for LGBTQ+ researchers in STEM.
Fasoli’s work has been featured in outlets such as the Daily Mail and NY Post. He co-leads the University’s Institute for Sustainability and serves as Secretary of the International Association of Language and Social Psychology (IALSP). Current research explores narrative CVs’ role in reducing bias and improving funding equity for underrepresented groups.
