Dr. Katherine Hubbard is a Senior Lecturer in the Sociology Department at the University of Surrey, with a secondary appointment as a Visiting Scholar at York University's Centre for Feminist Research. Her work bridges Sociology, Psychology, and History through a queer feminist lens, focusing on the history of psychology, gender, and sexuality. She holds a PhD from the University of Surrey, an MSc from the University of Sussex, and a BSc from Surrey.
Research interests include queer British history, the integration of psychology into social narratives, and methodologies addressing power dynamics in gender studies. She co-founded the Sex, Gender and Sexuality Research Group and led the MSc program in Sex, Gender and Sexuality Studies. As Co-Investigator on the FUTURESEX initiative, she connects academic, activist, and community groups internationally.
Publications span monographs like Queer Ink: A Blotted History Towards Liberation (2020) and co-edited works such as A Feminist Companion to Conceptual and Historical Issues in Psychology (2024). Recent work examines LGBTQ+ aversion therapy histories and queer kinship narratives through figures like Margaret Lowenfeld and Margaret Mead.
