Dr. Fabio Ellger is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Transformations of Democracy Unit of the WZB Berlin Social Science Center. His research focuses on Comparative Politics and Political Behavior, particularly democratic representation, voter mobilization, and electoral polarization. He holds a Ph.D. from Humboldt University Berlin through the DYNAMICS joint program with the Hertie School. Previously, he was a Visiting Scholar at Harvard University's Center for European Studies (2022–2023) and a research fellow at Nuffield College, University of Oxford (Summer 2024). His work employs field experiments, quantitative text analysis, and quasi-experimental designs to study democracy challenges.
Education: Ph.D. in Comparative Political Behavior (Humboldt University Berlin, 2022); M.A./M.Sc. via the DYNAMICS program (Humboldt University and Hertie School).
Research interests include the consequences of political violence on democracy, media decline and polarization, and coalition government dynamics. His publications appear in journals like the Journal of Politics and Comparative Political Studies.
Teaching includes courses on political behavior and research methods at Humboldt University Berlin and the Hertie School. Current research explores how crime and violence impact democratic governance and representation.
