Dr. Fabio Ellger is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Transformations of Democracy Unit at WZB Berlin Social Science Center, directed by Daniel Ziblatt. He holds a PhD in Comparative Political Behavior from Humboldt University Berlin (2022), graduating from the DYNAMICS joint PhD program with the Hertie School. His research focuses on comparative politics, democratic representation, electoral polarization, and voter mobilization. He has held visiting fellowships at Nuffield College, Oxford (Summer 2024) and Harvard University's Center for European Studies (Fall 2022).
Ellger employs advanced empirical methods including field experiments, text analysis with large language models, and quasi-experimental designs. His work examines challenges to democracies such as the impact of political violence on representation, media decline on polarization, and discrimination against constituents with immigration backgrounds. His publications appear in top journals like the British Journal of Political Science, Journal of Politics, and Comparative Political Studies.
Teaching interests include political behavior, research design, and applied methods. His research projects explore topics like coalition government policy responses to radical parties and rhetorical cleavages in parliamentary discourse.
