Fabio Alexandre Faria is an Invited Assistant Professor in the Department of History at the School of Sociology and Public Policy (ESPP), ISCTE - University Institute of Lisbon. He is also an Associate Researcher at CIES-Iscte, where he contributes to the FCT-funded project on international police cooperation in the Ibero-American Atlantic (c. 1870-1940). He holds a PhD in Modern and Contemporary History – Defense and International Relations from ISCTE, awarded in 2021.

Faria's research centers on contemporary history, with a focus on refugees, transnational mobilities, political surveillance, and police repression during the Estado Novo regime. His work explores the intersections of migration, state control, and humanitarian responses, particularly in the context of the Spanish Civil War and WWII. He has published extensively on topics such as border policing, exile networks, and the treatment of political refugees in Portugal.
His recent publications, spanning from 2023 to 2025, reflect a strong trend in transnational history, refugee studies, and Iberian political dynamics. Key themes include the repression and solidarity experienced by Spanish refugees, anti-communist policing, transatlantic exile routes, and the role of cultural institutions in preserving memory. His research combines archival depth with interdisciplinary approaches, engaging with criminology, political science, and social history.

Faria has advised and presented at numerous academic events, served on scientific committees, and engaged in public history through exhibitions and educational outreach. He has also been a history teacher at Cartaxo Secondary School (2023), demonstrating a commitment to both academic and public education.
