Fabienne Salfner is a Researcher at the Leibniz Centre for General Linguistics (ZAS) in Berlin, where she currently serves as Public Relations Officer since May 2019 and manages research data for the ERC project Realizing Leibniz's Dream: Child Languages as a Mirror of the Mind since January 2022. Her academic background includes a Magister in German Linguistics/Computer Science and a PhD from Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, with dissertation work on adverbials.
Her research focuses on the interface of syntax, semantics and information structure, particularly examining the interaction between discourse structure and pragmatics. She specializes in cross-linguistic pragmatics and experimental approaches to linguistic theory, frequently organizing academic events to advance these fields. Her publication record shows consistent engagement with theoretical linguistics, particularly in the analysis of non-conservative linguistic phenomena and discourse structures.
Salfner has demonstrated strong organizational capabilities through her roles as co-organizer of the Cross-linguistic Pragmatics workshop (2017), DGfS Summer School on Experimental Pragmatics (2019), and the upcoming Linguistic Open Access Series kick-off event (2025). Her editorial work on ZAS research reports demonstrates institutional leadership in documenting and disseminating linguistic research findings.
