Fabien GEHL is a Visiting Professor at the Interdepartmental European Advanced Studies (IDEAs) of the College of Europe. He currently serves as Deputy Head of Unit for South and South East Asia, Australia and New Zealand at the Directorate General for Trade of the European Commission. With over 15 years in trade policy, his expertise lies in Trade and Security, Services, Investment, and Digital Trade, alongside EU trade negotiations and WTO reform.
He previously worked at the EU Mission to the WTO in Geneva, the Belgian Ministry for Foreign Affairs, and taught European Affairs at the Swiss Graduate School of Public Administration (IDHEAP). Educated at the University of Liège (Public Administration), the College of Europe (Promotion Leonardo da Vinci), and the University of Bern (Ph.D. in Law), his career bridges academia and high-level policy-making.
