Dr. Fabian Schneider is a Junior Group Leader at the Heidelberg Institute for Theoretical Studies (HITS) since 2021. Previously, he held a Gliese Fellowship at the University of Heidelberg (2018–2020) and postdoctoral positions at the University of Oxford (2015–2018). He earned a PhD in Astrophysics from the University of Bonn (2015, summa cum laude) and holds master's and bachelor's degrees in Astrophysics and Physics from the same institution.
His research focuses on stellar evolution, massive stars, binary systems, and magnetic fields. Notable contributions include studies on stellar mergers, supernova progenitors, and the Binarity at LOw Metallicity (BLOeM) project. He has received prestigious awards like the Ludwig Biermann Award and an ERC Starting Grant (2020).
Teaching highlights include lectures on binary star evolution, Python for scientists, and cosmic explosions at the University of Heidelberg. He has also contributed to undergraduate teaching in theoretical astrophysics at Oxford and Bonn.
Current research emphasizes the interplay of binarity, supernovae, and magnetic fields in massive stars, with active projects like BLOeM exploring low-metallicity stellar environments. His lab at HITS focuses on computational astrophysics and interdisciplinary collaborations.
