Fabian Persson is a Professor of History at Linnaeus University, affiliated with the Department of Cultural Sciences within the Faculty of Arts and Humanities. His research focuses on the history of early modern European courts, particularly the Swedish monarchy and its dynamics. Persson holds a doctoral degree from Lund University (1999) with a thesis titled Servants of Fortune: The Swedish Court between 1598 and 1721.
His work examines themes such as court ceremonial practices, dynastic politics, and the socio-cultural role of monarchy. Notable publications include Women at the Early Modern Swedish Court: Power, Risk, and Opportunity (2021) and Survival and Revival in Sweden's Court and Monarchy, 1718–1930 (2020). Persson has contributed to interdisciplinary discussions on court studies, resilience strategies in dynastic systems, and the material culture of power.
His articles and book chapters analyze topics ranging from 18th-century Swedish court finances to gender dynamics in royal households. Persson actively participates in international academic networks, presenting at conferences like the Renaissance Society of America and the European Residences Project. His research bridges historical analysis with broader questions about cultural identity and political legitimacy.
