Fabian Brand

Dr. iur. Fabian Brand is a Senior Research Associate and postdoctoral fellow (Habilitand) at the Chair of Professor Dr. Andreas Eicker within the Faculty of Law at the University of Lucerne. He holds a doctorate from the University of Lucerne, awarded in 2025 for his dissertation on 'Criminal Law, Culpability, and Mistake of Law' comparing German and Swiss legal systems through legal doctrine, philosophy, and state theory. His research focuses on criminal law foundations, constitutional theory, legal philosophy, and comparative law.

Brand completed his legal studies at Universities of Tübingen, Freiburg, and Istanbul, earning his First State Examination in Law (2017). He served as a legal trainee (2019) with placements at the Higher Regional Court of Karlsruhe, OLAF’s Fraud Prevention Unit in Brussels, and the German Embassy in Belgrade, focusing on military and international criminal law. From 2020 to 2025, he was a research assistant at Eicker’s Chair, followed by a role as a legal officer at the Swiss Institute of Comparative Law (2021–2022).

His expertise spans intersections of criminal law with constitutional and philosophical frameworks, informed by comparative legal analysis.
