Ezra Aksoy is an Early Careers Fellow and Lecturer at Queen Mary University of London, affiliated with the William Harvey Research Institute under the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry. She leads the 'Mucosal Immunity and Signalling' group, focusing on PI3K biology in host-microbiome interactions and intestinal immunity. Her research explores how PI3K signaling regulates innate immunity, epithelial cell responses to injury, and systemic immune responses.
Education: BSc in Microbiology from Kansas State University (USA); PhD in Biomedical Sciences from Université Libre de Bruxelles (Belgium). Postdoctoral training at Barts Cancer Institute with Prof. Bart Vanhaesebroeck.
Research Interests: Intestinal mucosal immunology, PI3K signaling pathways, host-microbiota interactions, intestinal epithelial cell regeneration, and autoimmune disease mechanisms. Her work bridges basic science with translational research in inflammatory bowel disease and immunotherapy.
Awards/Grants: Marie Curie Intra-European Fellowship, MRC New Investigator Award (2015), Barts Charity grant (2019), AstraZeneca Award jury member (2021). Collaborates with institutions like The Francis Crick Institute and has secured funding from EU Horizon 2020 and MRC.
Lab Team: Includes postdoc Luiz Ricardo Vasconcellos and PhD student Laura Medrano. Active in training and mentoring early-career researchers through fellowships like the INPhINIT programme.
