معرفی
Ewen MacDonald is an Associate Professor at the University of Waterloo's Faculty of Engineering, affiliated with the Department of Biomedical Engineering. His research focuses on speech perception/production, hearing-assistive devices, and conversational dynamics in hearing-impaired populations. He holds a Ph.D. (2007) in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Toronto, with prior academic appointments at Queen's University and the Technical University of Denmark.
Key research areas include: speech intelligibility in noise, auditory feedback control mechanisms, and timing analysis in interactive conversations. His work addresses hearing aid signal processing optimization and the perceptual consequences of aging/synaptopathy-induced hearing loss.
Recent studies investigate audio-visual integration for humanoid robots, physiological measures of conversational engagement, and the impact of remote microphone technology on hearing-impaired communication. He teaches courses like BME 101L (Biomedical Visualization), BME 284 (Physiological Systems), and SYDE 740 (Human Systems).
