معرفی
Maud Gorbet is a Professor of Biomedical Engineering and Program Director at the University of Waterloo's Faculty of Engineering. She holds cross-appointments with the Department of Biology and the School of Optometry, and collaborates with the Centre for Ocular Research and Education. Her research focuses on biocompatibility of biomedical devices, particularly in ocular and cardiovascular environments, emphasizing innate immune cell interactions and material-induced inflammation. She leads a lab developing in vitro models to assess biomaterial safety and has pioneered studies on neutrophil behavior on ocular surfaces.
Education: PhD in Biomedical Engineering (University of Toronto, 2001); BASc in Engineering (Université de Technologie de Compiègne, France, 1993).
Research Interests: Biocompatibility of biomaterials, ocular surface inflammation, 3D-printed bone grafts, and biomaterial-cell interactions. Her work bridges engineering and biology to improve medical device safety. Recent projects include developing tear film models for contact lens testing and novel nanocomposite materials for bone repair.
Teaching: She instructs courses in biomedical design (SYDE 384, SYDE 584), biomaterials (CHE 561, NE 488), and specialized topics in biomedical engineering (BME 589, SYDE 684). Courses emphasize hands-on design and problem-solving aligned with CEAB graduate attributes.
Advising & Labs: Supervises graduate students with Sole-Supervisory Privilege Status (SSPS). Her lab collaborates across disciplines, focusing on in vitro models, neutrophil biology, and biomaterial innovation. Notable collaborations include work on 3D-printed bone materials and ocular biomaterial safety standards.
