Ewa K. Strzelecka is a Visiting Professor at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam's Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology, and an Assistant Professor at the University of Wrocław, Poland. She holds a PhD in Social and Political Science and four Master's degrees in Cultural and Religious Studies, Social Anthropology, Gender and International Development, and Migration and Social Intervention. Her research focuses on conflict and peace-building, refugees, gender justice, and transnational activism, particularly in the Middle East and North Africa.
Previously, she led the EU-funded 'Rethinking Peace-building: Women, Revolution, Exile, and Conflict Resolution in Yemen' project. She has held academic roles at institutions in Spain, Portugal, Germany, the UK, and the US, and conducted fieldwork across Yemen, Jordan, Egypt, and beyond. She has been awarded prestigious prizes, including the AECPA Prize for Outstanding Book Chapter (2019) and the Extraordinary PhD Award (2018).
Her work bridges academic research with policy-making, emphasizing gender-sensitive approaches to peace processes and global ethics. Current research explores Yemeni women refugees' roles in peacebuilding and the impact of exile on political agency. Key publications include Mujeres en la Primavera Árabe (2017) and contributions to Encyclopedia of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Spirituality (2025).
