Evelyn Yim is a Professor and Canada Research Chair in Nanomaterials for Regenerative Medicine (Tier 1) at the University of Waterloo. Her research focuses on biomaterials, tissue engineering, and nanotopography to regulate stem cell behavior. Her work spans applications in corneal regeneration, vascular graft engineering, and neural differentiation.
Her research interests include the development of biomaterial-based strategies for corneal endothelial cell expansion, functional wound dressings, and enzyme-responsive hydrogels. She also investigates the effects of surface topography on vascular and neuronal cells, aiming to create bio-inspired materials that mimic natural environments.
Key contributions include advancements in biomaterials for vascular compliance matching, droplet microfluidics for cell encapsulation, and enzyme-triggered drug delivery systems. Her work bridges material science and clinical applications, with a focus on translational regenerative medicine.
Dr. Yim’s research has produced over 50 peer-reviewed articles since 2020, addressing topics from nanotopography-driven stem cell differentiation to hemocompatible vascular grafts. Her lab (YimLab) is a leader in biomaterials innovation for medical applications.
