Evelien Gevers

Dr. Evelien Gevers is a Consultant in Paediatric Endocrinology, Diabetes and Honorary Adjunct Professor in Paediatric Endocrinology at Queen Mary University of London's William Harvey Research Institute (WHRI), within the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry. She holds clinical roles at Barts Health NHS Trust’s Royal London Children’s Hospital and collaborates with Great Ormond Street Hospital. Her academic work focuses on pituitary-growth axis biology, genetic causes of endocrine disorders, and translational research in growth hormone signaling.

Education: M.D. from Leiden University (Netherlands), postgraduate training at Leiden University Medical Centre, Erasmus MC, and the National Institute for Medical Research (UK). Her PhD research investigated growth plate mechanisms under Prof. Jan Maarten Wit. Clinical training included Paediatric Endocrinology fellowships in Rotterdam, London, and Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Research Interests: Molecular mechanisms of hypopituitarism, craniopharyngioma, and growth disorders. Key projects include genetic studies of pituitary tumors, STAT5B signaling in growth hormone resistance, and clinical trials for Prader-Willi syndrome and type 2 diabetes in children. Her work bridges basic science (e.g., GH receptor biology) and clinical practice (e.g., diagnostic pathways for endocrine disorders).

Grants & Leadership: Principal Investigator on NIHR studies, commercial trials (Merck, Soleno Therapeutics), and collaborations with Cincinnati Children’s Hospital and Cardiff University. She chairs the European Society for Paediatric Endocrinology’s Science Committee and sits on UK national diabetes audit groups.

Labs/Teams: Co-leads a joint lab with Dr. Carles Gaston-Massuet at WHRI, supervising PhD students on pituitary tumor biology. Collaborates with Prof. Mehul Dattani on genetic endocrine disorders and Dr. Vivian Hwa on GH signaling pathways.
