Cynthia Andoniadou

Professor Cynthia Andoniadou is the Dean for Research and holds the position of Professor of Stem Cell Biology at King's College London, within the Faculty of Dentistry, Oral & Craniofacial Sciences and the Centre for Craniofacial & Regenerative Biology. Her research focuses on endocrine stem cells, particularly in the pituitary and adrenal glands, integrating molecular, genomic, and genetic approaches to understand development, disease, and regenerative therapies. She leads a lab investigating stem cell regulation in the pituitary and their roles in tumors and hypopituitarism.

Education: PhD from the MRC National Institute for Medical Research; postdoctoral research at UCL's Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health. Awards: Starling Medal (2022), Lister Institute Research Prize (2016). She contributes to the European Society for Endocrinology and co-founded EUWIN (European Women in Endocrinology).

Research Interests: Pioneering studies on pituitary and adrenal stem cells, stress-induced stem cell activity, and tumor biology. Key areas include SOX2+ stem cells in adrenal medulla, WNT signaling in progenitor expansion, and the role of imprinted genes in pituitary development. Her work bridges basic science and clinical applications, addressing hypopituitarism and endocrine tumors.

Publications highlight breakthroughs in adrenal stem cell identity (Nature Communications 2025), epigenetic insights in PPGL tumors (Scientific Reports 2024), and stress-adaptation mechanisms (Molecular Psychiatry 2018). She collaborates internationally on adrenal and pituitary biology, including projects funded by MRC, EPSRC, and charitable foundations.
