Eve Oishi

Eve Oishi is an Associate Professor in the Department of Cultural Studies at Claremont Graduate University, where she teaches courses such as Transnational Media Theory, Film History, and Feminist & Queer Theory. Her academic journey includes a PhD and MA in English Literature from Rutgers University and a BA in English Literature and History from Swarthmore College.

Her research centers on Asian American cultural studies, independent and experimental film and video, transnational media, and gender and queer theory. She explores how race, sexuality, and identity are represented and constructed in media, with a particular focus on marginalized voices and forms. Her work critically engages with authenticity, fakeness, and cinematic pleasure in Asian American media practice.

Her recent publications reflect a sustained engagement with queer and trans media, feminist documentary practices, and the politics of curation. She has published in leading journals such as Signs, Women’s Studies Quarterly, and Feminist Media Histories, with a forthcoming piece in 2023 on gender, indicating active scholarly momentum.

Oishi is an independent film and video curator and has collaborated with scholars and activists on community-based film festivals, blending academic work with curatorial and activist practice.
