Eve L. Ewing is a Chicago-born Associate Professor at the University of Chicago, where she serves as Director of Undergraduate Studies in the Department of Race, Diaspora, and Indigeneity. A former public school teacher, she combines sociological analysis, Afrofuturism, and Black feminist frameworks to explore intersections of race, education, and social inequality.
Her research examines how schools perpetuate systemic inequities while simultaneously holding radical potential for liberation. She investigates racialized educational policies, school closures on Chicago's South Side, and the praxis of care in institutional settings. Her upcoming work extends this analysis to the historical (mis)education of Black and Native children.
Her Google Scholar publications reveal consistent focus on urban education critique (Ghosts in the Schoolyard), Afrofuturist storytelling (1919), and racial terminology analysis (Capitalizing 'White'). Recent articles explore alternative school accountability, middle school consent culture, and the Dyett High community organizing victory.
While no specific awards or students are explicitly listed, her creative works span poetry, academic writing, graphic novels (with Colin Kaepernick), and Marvel Comics projects like Ironheart and Black Panther. She remains actively engaged in teaching and community-centered epistemologies.
