Eve Baron serves as Associate Professor and Chair of the Graduate Center for Planning and the Environment within Pratt Institute's School of Architecture. She has taught at Pratt since 2004, initially as an adjunct faculty member before assuming the chair position in August 2016. Her instructional portfolio includes core planning courses such as Introduction to Planning, Studio, Thesis, History and Theory of Planning, Civic Engagement, and Fundamentals of Planning.
Her educational qualifications include:
- Ph.D. in Urban Planning and Public Policy from the Bloustein School of Planning and Policy Development at Rutgers University
- M.S. in International Development from Ohio State University
Professor Baron's research centers on democratizing planning processes through community-driven approaches. Key focus areas include:
- Participatory budgeting and equity-based planning frameworks
- Mitigating gentrification impacts and preserving low-cost housing
- Developing civic infrastructure for marginalized neighborhoods
- Integrating service learning with participatory action research
She has spearheaded major community planning initiatives including Imagine Flatbush 2030, the Plan for Chinatown and Surrounding Areas, the Harlem River Vision Plan, and the Cypress Hills Brownfield Opportunity Area Plan. Her professional contributions extend to co-founding the Collective for Community, Culture and Environment—a consultancy group advancing equity-focused planning—and serving on the Steering Committee of Planners Network, an international organization promoting socially progressive planning practices.
Prior to her current role, she held positions as Senior Planner and Policy Analyst at the Pratt Center for Community Development (2010-2013) and Interim Associate Director for Urban and Community Studies at CUNY's Joseph S. Murphy Institute. Her current teaching load includes PLAN-900 Advanced Research and PLAN-810 Studio: Sustainable Communities.
