Robert Baron

Dr. Robert Baron is a Professor and Vice Chief of the UCSF Division of General Internal Medicine, specializing in obesity treatment, nutrition, and preventive medicine. He founded and directs the UCSF Weight Management Program and has led the UCSF Primary Care Internal Medicine Residency Program since 1989. He holds an MD from UCSF and a Master's in Nutrition from the University of Wisconsin–Madison.

His research focuses on graduate medical education, quality improvement, and healthcare workforce policy. Key areas include resident training, clinical competency committees, and the integration of health system priorities into medical education. He has co-authored over 100 publications addressing topics like physician workforce projections, commercial influence in continuing medical education, and interprofessional clinical learning environments.

Dr. Baron's work emphasizes improving healthcare quality through faculty development, financial incentives for residents, and addressing disparities in diabetes management.
