Evan Troendle is a Research Fellow at Queen's University Belfast's Wellcome Wolfson Institute for Experimental Medicine, within the School of Medicine, Dentistry and Biomedical Sciences. His work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to good health and well-being. Troendle specializes in virology, ophthalmology, and public health, with a focus on infectious disease dynamics and biochemical pathways in retinal disorders.
His research interests include SARS-CoV-2 transmission, retinal neurovascular unit structure, and lipid peroxidation mechanisms. Recent studies address wastewater surveillance for viral pathogens and computational modeling of blood-brain barrier permeability. Troendle has been recognized with the Early Career Funding Scheme (2022) and has collaborated internationally on genomic and microscopy-based studies.
Key contributions include phylogenetic analyses of viral introductions in Ireland, 3D microscopy reconstructions of retinal vasculature, and guidelines for permeability benchmarking across computational and experimental platforms. His work bridges computational methods with clinical applications in virology and ophthalmology.
