Evan Rosevear

Dr. Evan Rosevear is a Lecturer in Public Law and JD Programme Co-ordinator at the University of Southampton’s Faculty of Law. He holds a PhD in Political Science and a JD from the University of Toronto. His research focuses on comparative constitutional law and politics, examining how courts, rights, and constitutions interact to foster social and political change. Key interests include judicial decision-making, economic/social rights, and the interplay between legal norms and political dynamics.

Before joining Southampton in 2023, he was a Global Academic Fellow at the University of Hong Kong’s Faculty of Law. He has also worked at Brazil’s FGV Direito-Rio (CJUS) and South Africa’s SAIFAC at the University of Johannesburg. His teaching includes modules like Public Law 1: Foundations and Advanced Public Law.

Dr. Rosevear’s external roles include Council Membership of the International Society for Public Law (ICON-S) and memberships in the Canadian Political Science Association and Law & Society Association. His recent publications explore judicial dissent in Brazil, social rights jurisprudence, and comparative constitutional frameworks.

His research highlights trends in judicial behavior, cross-jurisdictional constitutional analysis (e.g., Brazil and South Africa), and the empirical study of legal-political interactions. He collaborates with institutions like the Centre for Global Constitutionalism and the Centre for Democratic Futures, advancing interdisciplinary approaches to public law challenges.
