Evan Mayo-Wilson, DPhil, MPA, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Epidemiology at the University of North Carolina Gillings School of Global Public Health. His expertise spans intervention design, clinical evidence translation, and research transparency. He holds academic leadership roles, including co-Scientific Director for peer review of PCORI Research Reports and Associate Editor for Systematic Reviews at the American Journal of Public Health. Mayo-Wilson’s research focuses on improving methods for clinical trials, systematic reviews, and promoting open science practices.
Education: DPhil (Social Policy and Intervention) from the University of Oxford (2011), MPA from the University of Pennsylvania (2006), and BA in Psychology from Columbia University (2003).
Research Interests: Methodological advancements in clinical trials and systematic reviews, harms assessment in pharmacological interventions, and standards for transparent research reporting. He leads projects funded by NIH, Arnold Ventures, and PCORI, addressing gaps in trial transparency and reproducibility.
Awards: Golden Apple Excellence in Teaching Award (2019), Clarendon Scholarship (2006-2011), and Fels Scholarship (2004-2006).
Grants and Collaborations: Principal Investigator for projects like 'Computational Methods to Assess Transparency of Clinical Trials' and co-investigator for PCORI’s peer review initiatives. He contributes to guideline development (e.g., CONSORT-Harms, SPIRIT-Outcomes) and serves on advisory panels for the APA and Transparency and Openness Promotion (TOP) Guidelines.
Teaching: Over a decade of experience mentoring master’s and doctoral students in epidemiology and public health methods.
