Eva van Leer is an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at Georgia State University's College of Education & Human Development. Her research focuses on voice disorder treatment, patient adherence to behavioral voice therapy, and dysphagia. She holds a Ph.D. in Communicative Disorders from the University of Wisconsin, an M.S. in Speech and Hearing Sciences from the University of Arizona, an M.F.A. in Theatre Voice Training from the National Theatre Conservatory, and a B.S. in an interdisciplinary program from Eastern Michigan University.
Her work emphasizes innovative approaches to therapy adherence, including mobile technology and social-cognitive strategies. Recent research explores telepractice efficacy, yoga-based interventions for apraxia, and voice quality analysis through i-vector techniques. She also investigates the impact of group singing therapy for Parkinson's patients and the role of iOS apps in enhancing patient motivation.
Dr. van Leer's clinical expertise spans voice disorder evaluation, swallowing disorders, and the application of digital tools in speech therapy. She has contributed to over 30 peer-reviewed articles since 2005, with a focus on translational research bridging technology and clinical practice.
