Eva Maria Hinterhuber is a Professor of Sociology with a focus on gender studies at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, Faculty of Society and Economics. She serves on the Academic Senate, Equal Opportunities Commission, and co-chairs the Competence Centre for Innovative Learning and Teaching.
Her academic background includes a doctorate in Comparative Political Sociology from the European University Viadrina (Frankfurt/Oder). She previously studied political science, Slavic studies, and law at the Free University of Berlin, St. Petersburg State University (Russia), and the Leopold Franzens University of Innsbruck (Austria).
Professor Hinterhuber's research focuses on:
- Political sociology and participation
- Civil society research
- Peace and conflict studies
- Religion, migration, and integration from a gender perspective
- Regional studies focusing on Russia and Eastern Europe
She is currently implementing the research project "StArt – Feminist Peace Research," funded by the German Foundation for Peace Research, and will hold one of the four priority professorships for equality, diversity, inclusion, and participation from 2025 to 2026.
Her notable awards include:
- HSRW Teaching Award for Outstanding Teaching (2015)
- HSRW Teaching Award for Outstanding Teaching (2021)
Professor Hinterhuber is actively involved in academic service as co-editor of "Femina Politica. Journal of Feminist Political Science" and previously served as deputy chair of the German Association for Peace and Conflict Research from 2016 to 2024.
