She leads the Eva Hellström Lindberg Group focused on myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) and serves as Chair for the Center for Hematology and Regenerative Medicine at Campus Flemingsberg. Her work combines clinical practice with translational research, integrating molecular biology, stem cell studies, and biobanking.
- Double specialist in hematology and internal medicine (since 1993)
- President of European Association of Hematology and Swedish Society of Hematology
- Founded Nordic MDS Group (1984) and contributes to ICC classification of MDS
Research focuses on MDS mechanisms including:
- Clonal competition in SF3B1-mutated MDS
- Mitochondria-mediated apoptosis
- Genomic instability in del(5q) MDS
- Development of IPSS Molecular risk scoring system
- Personalized residual disease monitoring post-transplantation
Recent publications emphasize MDS-RS pathobiology through single-cell multi-omics and functional studies. Awards include:
- Wallenberg Clinical Scholar grant (2018)
- José Carreras Award (2016)
- Swedish Cancer Society research awards
Group includes teams led by Jette Lengefeld (Stem Cell Size), Bianca Tesi (Hereditary hematological malignancies), and visiting professor Marc Raaijmakers. Funded by Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation, Swedish Cancer Society, and Stockholm County Council.
