Prof. Dr. Eva Heinen is a Full Professor in the Department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering at ETH Zürich, serving as Deputy Head of the Institute of Transport Planning and Systems. She holds a PhD in Transport from Delft University of Technology and has held academic positions at TU Dortmund University, NTNU (Norway), University of Leeds, and Delft University of Technology. Her research focuses on transport planning, urban mobility, sustainable transportation, and the socio-spatial dimensions of travel behavior.
Key areas of expertise include transport equity, active travel, micromobility, and the interplay between urban form and travel patterns. She has led projects such as FRESH (on freight-shopping nexus) and the Sustainable Urban Transitions Lab. Her work bridges theoretical frameworks and empirical studies, addressing topics like car dependence, residential relocation impacts, and the role of built environments in mode choice.
Prof. Heinen has authored over 69 journal articles and book chapters, with recent publications exploring activity participation's link to accessibility, the effects of relocation on mobility, and e-cargo bike usage. She teaches courses on transport policy, planning methods, and mobility basics. Her contributions advance interdisciplinary approaches to creating inclusive and sustainable urban mobility systems.
