Eunsu Kang is an Assistant Professor of New Media Art at the University of Akron, Ohio, where she pioneered the university's first New Media Program. Her work bridges media art, machine learning, and interdisciplinary collaboration. She holds a Ph.D. in Digital Arts and Experimental Media from the University of Washington (2010), an MA in Media Arts and Technology from UC Santa Barbara (with Projector Loquens), and an MFA from Ewha Woman's University.
Her research focuses on AI collaboration, generative art, and interactive systems. Notable projects include the Face Series (2017), using GANs to generate non-human faces, and GANymedesVox (2018), an interactive audiovisual installation. Her work has been showcased globally and recognized with awards from the Korean National Fund and Arts Council Korea.
She has presented research at ACM, ICMC, and ISEA conferences. During her sabbatical at Carnegie Mellon University, she explores Machine Learning applications in art, collaborating with Prof. Barnabas Poczos. Kang’s practice emphasizes ethical coexistence with AI and challenges categorical boundaries in art and identity.
