Professor Eugene Sadler-Smith is a Professor of Organizational Behaviour at the Surrey Business School, University of Surrey. His academic career spans over three decades, with a PhD from the University of Birmingham (part-time, 1988–1992) and a BSc from the University of Leeds. He specializes in intuition in decision-making, hubris in leadership, and human resource development. His research has been published in top-tier journals like Academy of Management Learning and Education and British Journal of Management. He has authored influential books such as Intuition in Business (2023) and Hubristic Leadership (2019).
Professor Sadler-Smith’s research interests revolve around understanding managerial intuition’s role in decision-making, the dangers of hubristic leadership, and their implications for organizations. His work bridges cognitive psychology, neuroscience, and management theory, emphasizing practical applications in leadership, HR, and organizational learning. He has collaborated with leading institutions like the British Academy, CIPD, and the Metropolitan Police, applying insights to real-world challenges.
His accolades include being a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development. He serves on editorial boards for journals such as International Journal of Management Reviews and Management Learning.
