Eugene Pinkhassik is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Connecticut. His research focuses on developing nanomaterials and nanodevices to address challenges in energy, medical imaging, treatment, and environmental sensing. He holds a Ph.D. from the Institute of Chemical Technology in Prague (1997) and a Dipl.Chem. from Kazan University (1991), with postdoctoral training at the University of Colorado, Boulder.
His work includes grants from the NSF and UConn Research Excellence Program for functional nanodevices and rotaxane-based structures. Key contributions involve thin-shelled polymer nanocapsules, stimuli-responsive systems, and applications in catalysis and biomedical imaging.
Notable achievements include publishing over 50 peer-reviewed articles on nanocapsule design, shell characterization, and biomedical applications. Students supervised include Cristian Aviles-Martin, Allison Zupan, and Jessica Martin, many of whom have received prestigious awards like the NSF GRFP and ACS SURF grants.
His lab emphasizes safety initiatives, including the Department of Chemistry Joint Safety Team, and collaborates with institutions like Oak Ridge National Laboratory and NIST for neutron scattering studies.
