Professor Euan Wallace is the Carl Wood Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Monash University, leading the Ritchie Centre within the Hudson Institute of Medical Research. His work focuses on improving maternal and fetal health through translational research, from bedside to bench and back to bedside. He currently serves as CEO of Safer Care Victoria and previously as Director of Obstetric Services at Monash Health (2006–2016).
Education: MD (1996) and MBChB (1986) from the University of Edinburgh. His research addresses challenges like intrauterine growth restriction, preeclampsia, and cerebral palsy prevention through innovative therapies such as melatonin supplementation and amnion stem cell treatments. He leads the world-first PROTECT-Me clinical trial assessing melatonin’s neuroprotective effects in fetal growth restriction.
Key contributions include advancing fetal surveillance protocols, particularly for South Asian-born women, and exploring long-term outcomes of preterm birth. He collaborates internationally on projects like the Australia-China stem cell research initiative. Over 480 publications and 75+ projects highlight his prolific research output.
Grants and collaborations include NHMRC funding for neuroprotection trials and Diabetes Australia support for gestational diabetes research. His team integrates basic scientists, clinicians, and engineers to tackle perinatal healthcare challenges.
