Dr. Estrella Pearce is a Lecturer in Criminology at the Department of Sociology and Social Policy, University of Sydney. She joined in July 2019 after completing her PhD at Western Sydney University, where she also taught courses in victimology, crime and criminal justice, and juvenile justice. Her research focuses on youth justice, restorative justice practices, and the impact of criminal justice systems on marginalized groups, particularly Indigenous youth and young women.

Her research interests include analyzing institutional and micro-level factors affecting youth diversion programs under NSW’s Young Offenders Act 1997, and exploring pathways to redirect marginalized youth toward pro-social activities. She has contributed to projects funded by the Department of Home Affairs and the Sydney-Heidelberg Ignition Grant, collaborating with Heidelberg University on counter-narratives to neo-nationalist extremism.
Her recent publications include an analysis of youth diversion failures in NSW (2021) and a contribution to the Blackwell Encyclopedia of Sociology (2024). She actively participates in editorial and academic networks, including the Sydney Institute of Criminology and the Australian and New Zealand Society of Criminology.
