Dr. Esther Wohlgemut is a Professor in the Department of English at the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI). She serves on the Steering Committee for the Applied Communication, Leadership, and Culture (ACLC) program, where she emphasizes interdisciplinary questions and the development of renewable competencies for students' long-term success in a changing world.
Her research focuses on 19th-century British Literature, particularly the intersections of Scottish Enlightenment, Cosmopolitanism, Nationalism, and Romantic historiography. Her current project explores the representation of secret societies in late 18th- and early 19th-century British writing.
Dr. Wohlgemut has published a monograph titled Romantic Cosmopolitanism (Palgrave Macmillan, 2009) and articles in journals such as Studies in English Literature, European Romantic Review, and Romanticism on the Net. Her work bridges literary theory with broader cultural and philosophical themes.
