Dr. Esther Kim Lee is the Frances Hill Fox Professor of Theater Studies, International Comparative Studies, and History at Duke University. She serves as Chair of Theater Studies and directs the Asian American and Diaspora Studies program.
- Education: Ph.D. from Ohio State University (2000)
Her research focuses on Asian American theatre history, Korean diaspora performance, and globalization impacts on theatre. She pioneers critical analyses of yellowface, transcultural memory, and intercultural aesthetics.
Recent publications examine modernity's intersection with performance, visual rhetoric in Asian representation, and diasporic identity construction. Her work challenges Eurocentrism in drama studies.
