Ji-Yeon Yuh is an Associate Professor of History and Asian American Studies at Northwestern University’s Weinberg College of Arts & Sciences. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania and a B.S. in Cognitive Science from Stanford University. Her research focuses on diaspora, migration, and oral history, particularly regarding Korean diasporas and U.S. militarism. She directs initiatives like the Asian Diasporas Digital Archive and co-founded the Alliance of Scholars Concerned about Korea. Awards include the Peabody Award (2006) and the Milestone Maker Award (2004).
Her teaching spans courses on Asian American history, global diasporas, and comparative race and gender. Notable grants include a $100,000 Humanities Without Walls consortium award for the Performing History project. She advises Ph.D. students in Asian American history and has published widely on topics like Korean military brides and transnational migration. Public history projects include Memories of War and Our Stories, Our Selves.
