Dr Esther Doecke is a Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for International Research on Education Systems (CIRES), Victoria University, where she has been since 2014. She holds a PhD from the University of Melbourne (UniMelb), alongside a Master of Teaching (MTeach), a Bachelor of Arts (Honours), and a Graduate Certificate in Social Policy (GCSoc) from La Trobe University. Her research focuses on comparative education systems, social policy impacts, and educational equity, particularly analyzing how institutional structures and family strategies shape educational outcomes in Australia and Germany. She received the German Academic Exchange Service Grant in 2014 to support her work.
Her research interests include education system structures, public policy effects on schools, and the interplay between family strategies and systemic inequality. Notable projects include evaluations of the Fair Education program in NSW and analyses of remote learning during the pandemic. She has contributed to major reports on educational opportunity gaps and 21st-century skill frameworks.
Key awards include the 2014 German Academic Exchange Service Grant. Her work often involves collaborative projects with government agencies, such as the Mitchell Institute and NSW Department of Education, focusing on policy design and equity initiatives. She leads research teams examining topics like student well-being, vocational education reform, and philanthropy's role in educational equity.
