Esther Asprey is a Senior Lecturer in English Language and Linguistics at the School of Social Science and Humanities, University of Wolverhampton. Her expertise lies in historical sociolinguistics, regional variation across the British Isles, and linguistics applications beyond academia. She has published extensively on Black Country dialect and is currently documenting Shropshire dialects and tracking lexical attrition via community-driven open-source projects.

Her research explores dialect change during industrialization, language ideologies, and women’s roles in mining communities. Recent articles focus on negation strategies, sensory vocabulary, and dialect documentation. Awards include Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy. She has collaborated with Walsall Archives and Ironbridge’s Museum of the Gorge to digitize oral histories and supervise two Wolverhampton doctoral students.
