Dr. Estelle M. Martin is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Entomology and Nematology at the University of Florida. Her research focuses on arthropod-borne viruses, mosquito-virus interactions, and vector control strategies to combat emerging public health threats. She leads the E. Martin Lab, dedicated to reducing the global burden of vector-borne diseases through molecular and experimental approaches.
Her work investigates virus evolution, viral symbionts' impact on disease transmission, and mosquito immune responses. She emphasizes applied research to enhance targeted interventions in mosquito populations, particularly in temperate zones where diseases like dengue and Zika have emerged. The lab collaborates with institutions such as the Florida Medical Entomology Laboratory and the CDC Southeastern Center of Excellence in Vector-Borne Diseases.
