Dr. Esta Bostock is a Lecturer in Forensic Science at the University of Huddersfield's School of Applied Sciences, affiliated with the Department of Physical and Life Sciences and the Secure Societies Institute. She holds a BSc (Hons) and PhD in Forensic Science from the same institution. Her research focuses on forensic entomology, chronobiology of forensically relevant insects, and textile damage analysis related to knife crime. She contributes to the UN Sustainable Development Goals through her work in forensic science.
Education: BSc (Hons) in Forensic and Analytical Science, University of Huddersfield; PhD in Forensic Entomology, University of Huddersfield.
Research Interests:
- Forensic Entomology: Studying insect behavior in decomposition and crime scene analysis
- Chronobiology: Investigating circadian rhythms in flies (e.g., Megaselia scalaris) for forensic timelines
- Clothing Damage Analysis: Developing methods to assess knife-related textile trauma
Recent publications explore insect effects on clothing decomposition, chronobiological fly studies, and novel forensic textile analysis methods. She actively participates in academic activities, including presentations on expanding forensic entomology applications and entomotoxicological casework.
Awards: None explicitly listed.
Advising/Grants: Accepting PhD students in forensic science areas. Active in research supervision and collaboration.
Labs/Teams: Affiliated with the Secure Societies Institute and collaborates on interdisciplinary forensic projects.
