Essi Pöyry is a University Researcher and Docent at the Department of Economics and Management, University of Helsinki. She holds a PhD in Business from the Aalto University School of Business (completed in 2016). Her research interests focus on digital marketing, consumer behavior, and social media analysis, with notable work on political communication and virtual reality applications in services.
Key projects include leading the 'OM / Essi Pöyry / Viitebudjetin päivitys' (Ministry-funded) and participating in initiatives like 'UnCoCo: Unconventional Communicators in the Corona Crisis' (2020–2022). She has received several awards, including the Best Paper Award at FAMAC 2022 and the Minitrack Best Paper Award at HICSS 2022.
Her work bridges academia and public engagement, with frequent media appearances on topics like consumer psychology and social media's societal impact. Recent activities include invited talks on sustainable budgets and AI-driven influencer relations.
