Esery Mondesir

Esery Mondesir is an Assistant Professor at OCAD University's Faculty of Art in Toronto. A Haitian-born video artist and filmmaker, Mondesir integrates personal and collective memory, official archives, vernacular records, and everyday experiences to explore societal narratives from its margins. His collaborative work with the Haitian diaspora in Havana, Cuba, and Tijuana, Mexico, has been showcased globally at institutions such as the Museum of Contemporary Art in Montreal, the Open City Festival in London, UK, the Eastman Museum in Rochester, New York, and the Art Gallery of Ontario.

Mondesir's artistic practice examines the intersections of migration, identity, and historical erasure through experimental filmmaking and community-driven storytelling. His work emphasizes the agency of marginalized voices in reconstructing cultural and political histories. Exhibitions of his films highlight underrepresented diasporic experiences, blending documentary and speculative approaches to challenge dominant archival paradigms.
