Erwan Bertin

Dr. Erwan Bertin is an Associate Professor of Chemistry at St. Francis Xavier University, where he leads the Green Nanomaterials for Green Applications research group. His work focuses on electrocatalysis, nanomaterials synthesis via pulsed laser ablation in liquids, and CO₂ electroconversion. He holds a BSc from Université de Sherbrooke (2009) and a PhD from INRS-EMT (2016). Before joining StFX, he held postdoctoral positions at the University of Calgary (Canada First Research Excellence Fund Fellow) and the University of Duisburg-Essen (Humboldt Fellow).

His research addresses critical challenges in sustainable energy and environmental remediation. Key interests include developing efficient electrocatalysts for CO₂ reduction, eliminating pollutants like urea and hydrazine, and advancing nanomaterials synthesis techniques. His lab employs tools such as pulsed laser ablation, SEM, and electrochemical analysis.

Bertin has authored 23 peer-reviewed articles and 2 patents. Notable awards include the Humboldt Fellowship and Canada First Research Excellence Fund Postdoctoral Fellowship. His group actively mentors students in projects involving CO₂ electrolyzers, nanoparticle synthesis, and green chemistry applications.
