Ertan Şahin

Professor Ertan Şahin is a distinguished academic in the field of Nuclear Medicine at Gaziantep University Faculty of Medicine. He currently holds the position of Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine and Department of Nuclear Medicine. With over two decades of experience, Professor Şahin has established himself as a leading expert in molecular imaging, radiopharmaceutical therapy, and PET/CT applications in oncology.

Professor Şahin completed his medical education at Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine (1993-2000) followed by medical specialization in Nuclear Medicine at Gaziantep University (2003-2007). His academic career progressed from Research Assistant to Professor, with appointments at both Namık Kemal University and Gaziantep University.

Professor Şahin's research primarily focuses on advanced nuclear medicine techniques for cancer diagnosis and treatment. His work centers on prostate cancer imaging using PSMA-targeted radiotracers, thyroid cancer management, and the application of novel FAPI (Fibroblast Activation Protein Inhibitor) PET imaging in various malignancies. He has made significant contributions to understanding the therapeutic efficacy of 177Lu-PSMA-617 radioligand therapy in metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer.

His extensive publication record includes over 60 articles, with recent work emphasizing the comparative effectiveness of 68Ga-FAPI PET/CT versus traditional 18F-FDG PET/CT in various cancers including breast, thyroid, gastrointestinal, and hematological malignancies. Professor Şahin has also contributed three book chapters on nuclear medicine applications, particularly in thyroid cancer and imaging techniques.

Among his notable achievements are the 2022 Best Oral Presentation award from the Turkish Endocrinology and Metabolism Association and the 2018 Specialist Competition Award from the Turkish Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery Association.

Professor Şahin has supervised two theses to completion and has led multiple research projects, including investigations into DNA damage in prostate cancer patients receiving radioligand therapy. He serves on the editorial boards of numerous international journals and maintains active memberships in major nuclear medicine societies worldwide.

His laboratory work focuses on preclinical imaging and translational research, bridging the gap between basic science and clinical applications in nuclear medicine. Professor Şahin continues to advance the field through innovative research and mentorship of the next generation of nuclear medicine specialists.
